Pro tennis makes another stop in Middle States next week when two of the best parts of summer – the beach and tennis – come together.
Now in its third straight year, the ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open is set to take place throughout the week at Sea Colony Tennis Center in Bethany Beach, Del., with main draw action beginning Tuesday, June 11 and continuing through Sunday, June 16. The tournament begins with singles qualifying rounds Sunday and Monday, with players fighting for eight spots in the 32-spot main draw.
A USTA member appreciation day will take place on Saturday, June 15, during the doubles final.
The tournament, which is free to the public, will feature some of the sport’s fastest-rising female athletes in both singles and doubles. The winner of the 2011 tournament, New York’s Lena Litvak, returns this year to join the field of over 60 competitors in this year’s event.
The highly-anticipated week of clay-court tennis isn’t limited to the pros, as a Play Day is scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the Tennis Center. In addition to that, former French Open doubles champion Luke Jensen will hold court for a clinic and pro exhibition on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Sea Colony Tennis Director Thomas Johnston and his staff have worked tirelessly in recent years to build Sea Colony into one of the premier tennis destination on the east coast. Running numerous USTA programs for juniors and adults, the club offers top-notch instruction, camps, tournaments and more for players of all ages. In 2012, Sea Colony was selected as the USTA Outstanding Facility of the Year and was chosen by Tennis Magazine as a Top 50 American resort.
