The US Open National Playoffs kicked off in Middle States Saturday, with 130 players from 14 states on hand to compete for a shot in the 2013 US Open.
The event, which is taking place for the fourth time at Mercer County Tennis Facility in West Windsor, N.J., gives players all over the country a chance to compete on one of sports’ biggest stages.
Action continues until Tuesday’s finals in men’s and women’s singles, and mixed doubles. A photo gallery, updated daily, can be found here.
Players from colleges including Syracuse University, Rutgers University, University of Pennsylvania, Virginia Tech and more will join former college standouts, current high school players, coaches, teaching pros and individuals from each corner of the tennis world. The age range for the tournament runs from 14 to 66.
Winners of the men’s and women’s divisions of the Sectional Qualifying Tournament will advance to the US Open National Playoff Championship, which will take place in New Haven, Conn., at Yale University. Winners of that tournament will receive a wildcard entry into the 2013 US Open Qualifying Tournament, while the winner of the Mixed Doubles Championship will receive an automatic wildcard entry in the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
