USTA Middle States is working with Camp Colwell to bring tennis to kids of those serving in the Delaware National Guard.
“We’ll never be able to give enough thanks to our servicemen and servicewomen, but it’s an honor just to have the opportunity to give back to kids of those serving,” said Kasey Connors, Associate Director of Community Development at Middle States. “We’re excited to share tennis with this group and for a great day.”
The summer camp is mainly implemented by a large team of volunteers. The camp is named after Ernie Colwell, a retired National Guard member who wanted to provide a fun program to teach kids of service members about the experience of serving in the military. Local individuals and companies help to support the camp, which does the majority of its fundraising in-house.
Marty Godwin Tennis will be providing the instruction, and USTA Middle States Tennis Service Representative Kelly Rasero will assist in running the Play Day. An expected 50 participants will have four pros working with them during the three-hour timetable.
