It’s officially championship season in Middle States.
Jr. Team Tennis (JTT) district championships kicked off in Middle States on Wednesday morning when the Philadelphia Area Tennis District (PATD) hosted the event at two locations. District championships are scheduled in all other Middle States districts over the next two weeks.
It all leads up to JTT Section Championships in Middle States, which will take place at Mercer County Park from July 30-August 1. Winning teams from that event will advance to National Championships in South Carolina.
For players like Kunal Shah, the experience of playing JTT has been a positive one.
“I like the competition, going out and having fun,” said Shah, who is in his first year playing with the Bucks County Blue Terminators. “Tennis keeps me motivated.”
Tuesday’s tennis action for teams from across the Philly area took place at Frosty Hollow Tennis Center and Core Creek Tennis Park, with 14 and Under Intermediate squads competing at Frosty Hollow, and 18 and Under Intermediate teams battling it out at Core Creek. PATD championships continued in additional age categories Thursday.
Two teams have already punched their tickets to Section Championships. Team Split Steps (14U) took the District Championship Title with 111 points over Team SPT, who were finalists with 100 points. Meanwhile, YM Tennis (18U) captured the win with a whopping 120 points, and Radnor Valley Smash finished in second.
