When Peter Christis first played tennis as a high school student in the 1970s, he enjoyed it. He never anticipated, though, that years later it would become such a large part of his life.
It went to a new level after a family vacation in 1996.
“We played tennis every day,” he said of the vacation. “When we got home, my wife signed us up, and since then tennis has been a consistent part of my weekly routine.”
Christis, who splits time between Plymouth Meeting, Pa. and Venice, Fla., captains two USTA Middle States mixed doubles teams, along with two men’s teams. A USTA League Tennis player since 2005, he began captaining a team in 2010 and hasn’t looked back.
His teammates and players call him organized and fair.
Christis mainly plays at Kinetix Sports Club (Norristown, Pa.), Upper Dublin Sports Center (Ambler, Pa.) and Magarity Tennis Club (Flourtown, Pa.).
“I really enjoy the physical activity that tennis provides, and that it is a sport which people can continue to play as they age,” Christis said. ” USTA Leagues have provided me an opportunity to meet many people who also enjoy the sport. I have developed many friendships over the years with other players. I’m looking forward to playing for years to come.”
