When a Grand Slam Champion speaks, you better listen.
That was just the case on Tuesday, July 22 when 11-time Grand Slam champion and former world No. 1 doubles player Lisa Raymond dropped by Delaware’s DuPont Country Club to lead a kids clinic sponsored by the Philadelphia Freedoms.
Approximately 50 kids came to get pointers and advice from the world champion. Raymond told the crowd that her favorite tournament is Wimbledon, and one of her proudest moments was winning the bronze medal for mixed doubles at the Olympics last summer in London.
During the drill sessions, Raymond watched the participants play and offered pointers. She encouraged them to work on both their two handed backhand and the slice. When asked the key to being a good doubles player, she had quite the answer.
“Pick a good partner,” she smiled.
The event was sponsored and led by the Freedoms and had support from Delaware Maternal Medicine, the Delaware Tennis Foundation and USTA Middle States Delaware District.
