Tracy Wall began playing USTA League Tennis nearly a decade ago. Since then, it’s become much more than a simple hobby.
“As a captain — even just as a tennis player on a team — it’s all about setting up for the group to have success. There’s an art to the strategy. I love that, and I love winning.”
Wall and her team did their fair share of winning this past year. The 3.5 team out of Frog Hollow in Lansdale, Pa. advanced to USTA League Nationals in the fall, taking fourth place. Fourteen players traveled to nationals, with Frog Hollow coach Mike Esz also taking the trip.
For Wall, the experience was one to remember. The most special part of the season, though, still came at the local level.
“We finally “cracked” Districts after four tries, made it to Sectionals and went into the Sunday at Sectionals basically out of it,” she recalled. “Who would have thought that another team would lose the final match, then we would win our match and seal the deal to go to Nationals. It was a wild ride.”
It didn’t end there.
“At Nationals, we won our flight 4-0 to get into the final four.”
Wall said she’s hoping the team will see even more success heading into next year. After experiencing success at the national level, she now knows what to expect.
